COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Acting For The Camera

We will be working “on camera” with scripts (hand picked for each and every student) with modified TV, Movie and Commercial scripts for emergent readers. The goal of the class is to improve on-camera comfort, confidence, and skill while students hone their acting skills in a supportive, exciting, and enriching environment. Every class utilizes real video playback so students can get true on-camera experience! This class is designed to be taken multiple times. Because all scripts are hand picked and classes are deliberately small, you will always get personal attention, and will always be in a class that is a "good fit" for you!

Acting for Commercials

Commercial acting is a skill unto itself! An excellent choice work working or aspiring professionals, Each class focuses on various techniques employed by working professionals.  The class focuses on cold readings, script dissection, cue cards, improvisation, partner work, audition etiquette and technique, on set etiquette and more. Students will work individually and in groups to improve and advance their on-camera presence and on-camera commercial technique.  All skill levels are welcome.

College Prep- Drama AND  College Prep- Musical Theatre  (10th-12th grade ONLY)

To conservatory or not conservatory? That is the question!, Audition materials, surviving the college application process, the best schools for you, both before, during, and after the 4 years. Limited to just 5 lucky students in each class, you will be prepped, prepared and excited for your college auditions with expert monologue coaching, interview prep skills, resume construction, and even help with video auditions if necessary. Musical Theatre participants will work on college-audition appropriate songs with a live accompanist each week. Team taught by three working professionals with recent and relevant conservatory training, with personalized, professional insight and guidance straight from the mouths of admissions directors, college instructors, and agents who attend the graduates' showcases!  Where was this class when we were preparing for college auditions?! Can also be paired with private coaching (strongly recommended for fall Seniors).

Creative Drama

This class allows students to develop original characters and plot lines based on stories existing or imagined by us! The relaxed and supportive environment allows students to get comfortable on stage while they begin to understand dramatic structure (plot/character/conflict, etc)

Improvisation
Designed to help young actors hone their performing and listening skills, improv is really about having FUN. This class will help you loosen up on stage and screen, as well as in auditions, and sharpen your listening skills. Learn to create characters, understand broad character choices, and create a "real" environment, all while learning to WORK together on stage or screen.

Musical Theatre

Students will learn safe, proper singing techniques, breath control, pitch, etc, as well as both popular and age appropriate Broadway songs in a class specifically and specially designed for young voices. In addition to singing, children will learn movement and  blocking, and work on building all skills necessary for musical theatre in a fun creative and professional environment. Class will culminate in a sharing day at the end of each session for invited guests.

On-Camera Scene Study

These master classes offer a way for students who have already taken our regular on-camera curriculum to further their studies and keep themselves in front of a camera on a weekly basis. We will focus on many advanced techniques including script structure, scoring, and professional film/tv issues. This class is by audition or invitation only. If you are interested in this class, please call 973-866-8787 to schedule an interview before registering.

Scene Study

Utilizing techciques and exercises from Adler, Stanislavsky, Meisner, etc, as well as authentic scripts, this class will encourage serious actors to go further with their acting. Whether aiming for the school play or for Broadway, this class will help you realize your full potential as an actor.

Stage to Screen and In Between

This class will highlight scripts from popular and classic Broadway, TV Shows, and even voice overs! Designed for students who are looking to fill the gap and learn about all mediums to expand their horizons and perfect their Craft.  This is a one-of-a-kind class.

Storybook Theatre

Using our favorite fairy tales, superheroes, and fables, we bring stories to life with a craft, dress up, and lots of fun! A class promoting imaginative play while using creative thinking, listening skills, and cooperation in an age appropriate setting.

Storybook  Musical Theatre

Using our favorite stories and musical characters, we bring stories to life with dress up, and lots of fun! Similar to storybook theatre, in that we promote imaginative play while using creative thinking, listening skills, and cooperation in an age appropriate setting, we add the extra excitement of song and movement for our youngest "broadway bound" students.

TV Tykes

Students will be introduced to commercial scripts, improvisation, and audition techniques while building teamwork and listening skills and expressing themselves creatively on-camera every week. This one of a kind class allows our pre-readers to become familiar with blocking, slates, marks, and basic on camera technique in a unique and fun way!

Voice Over Technique

Using professional studio recording equipment and actual scripts from commercials, students will be introduced to proper microphone technique, diction, cold reads, script analysis, booth etiquette, and the many "tricks of the trade" that will help put you on the path to success as a voice over actor! As with all of our classes, we use only authentic voice over scripts.

With a better knowledge of the news process, AWE then puts corporate leaders to the test. In taped mock television interviews, she takes executives through the rigors of the news interview process and then coaches them on ways to better present their viewpoints and be quoted on the issues they want to convey.

Public Speaking  please call for corporate pricing.

From intense one-on-one sessions to day-long seminars that span the gamut of presentation skills, Emily and her staff prepare executives to be effective public speaker. One on one taped sessions prepare the speaker to take their fine-tuned message to their intended audiences.
